Who Qualifies for the Homestead Exemption?

Your Home Must Be Your Primary Residence

Only an owner’s primary residence may receive the homestead exclusion—meaning it’s where you intend to live permanently until you move to another home. You may be asked to provide proof (like a driver’s license, voter registration, or income tax forms).

You Can Only Claim It Once

You can’t claim a homestead exclusion on more than one property—whether that’s another county or another state.

Mixed-use Homes Can Still Qualify (Sometimes)

If part of your property is used for something other than your primary residence (business use or rental use), the application asks what percentage is used solely as your residence.
